It seems unbelievable but it ‘s true; we finally made it through the backyard to the travel trailer.
When we returned home from my Sons wedding last Fall (Click here, to read about that trip), we cleaned and inspected the trailer. Then we parked it under the overhang next to the shop. After a few weeks, I added a 12 volt light over the kitchen sink. Then the weather rolled in.
Don’t get me wrong, living in Texas, you really want it to rain. However, this rain just would not stop. We were deluged with rain from October through the middle of March, and a lot of it. The problem now wasn’t just the rain, the problem was that there was really nowhere for it to go. The soil here, is primarily clay, so it’s like pouring water into a vase, over and over again. Why can’t this happen in July and August?
My yard became a swamp, and letting the dogs out to go potty became a real pain. They were now on a leash each time they went out, and I would try to get an umbrella over them so that they would stay as dry as possible. We became confined to the highest points near the house. This type of weather is bad for them, and bad for me.
Occasionally the yard would get dry enough for the girls to be off leash, and then the rain would come again. However, even though the yard was dry enough for the dogs, it was still unable to support a person walking over it without sinking.
So, after almost 6 months we finally had over a week with no rain. We even had decent temperatures. I walked the backyard and while it was still somewhat soft, I realized this might be my best opportunity for getting hooked up again. I unlocked the back gate and made a successful attempt at hooking up. That was last night. The rain came again this morning, but now I don’t care. The travel trailer is now hooked up to the truck, and that ‘s all that matters. I am ready to end cabin fever with Tammy and the Girls.
We are heading back to Daingerfield State Park on Sunday After noon for 3 days. Then we will come back home and the travel trailer will be inspected, so I can get the registration renewed. Lastly, I’m going to seriously consider backing it in this time, because who knows how long this weather pattern will continue.
Happy Camping!
