Is my new 2500 Ram cursed?  It’s almost brand new and already had two unfortunate events.

Five minutes after we left the driveway …BAM!

About five months ago someone backed into it at Lowe’s and of course they left the scene.  That cost me $500.00 to repair the front bumper.  The truck probably had a whopping 1500 miles on it when that happened.  I felt five hundred dollars was a great deal considering the whole front bumper had to be removed, repaired, and repainted.

Now on our latest road trip, just five minutes out of the driveway, a truck going in the opposite direction threw a rock up at the windshield.  It was a huge rock and made a large impact. We immediately saw a large pock mark in the glass with small cracks spreading outward.  The worst part, was that it was right in my line of vision.  The Ram only had 4000 miles on the odometer at this point.

Here’s where the story gets a little interesting.  I waited until we got to Wisconsin to start pricing repairs and replacements.  A repair could be done to the divit but was not recommended because it would still be in my line of sight; and would never be clear.  The cost for a repair was anywhere from 140 to 170 dollars.

A new windshield would cost anywhere from 565 dollars for an aftermarket windshield up to 950 dollars for a OEM Ram windshield.  Again these prices were quoted through a major chain and several smaller operations in Wisconsin.

Wondering if I could do better I contacted Elite Auto Glass in Terrell Texas.  They actually have two other locations as well, Tyler and Lewisville, Texas.  A new OEM Ram Windshield would cost 535.00 plus tax.  Wow, that beat the competition hands down.

Needless to say, driving with a marred windshield in you line of vision during a long road trip is frustrating. However, the savings were worth the wait.

I made an appointment when I got home.  Although they will come to your home, I drove to their shop.  They immediately began work on the Ram. Within an hour the new windshield was installed.

The folks there are friendly and treat your vehicle as if they own it.  I couldn’t be happier with the job they did.

So while this damage did happen while I was towing our travel trailer up north,  you won’t see me featured on a commercial pulling my rig into a major chain auto glass shop (did you see what i did there?)  Elite Auto Glass did a great job on my truck and earned a new customer.

So if you live in the Dallas area and your truck happens to become a rock magnet while towing your travel trailer, check them out.
