We are not currently camping, we are home in North East Texas bracing for the winter blast. While this storm has been predicted to hit Texas for over a week, I have read that many folks put off winterizing their travel trailers until today. I understand that this is Texas but these storms are no joke.

You probably can still remember what February of 2021 was like in Texas. Massive power shortages plagued the state. In addition, many RV’ers failed to winterize or didn’t adequately winterize their rigs. This resulted in many toilets and water heaters being ruined. Some causing peripheral damage as a result.
Complicating all of this was the existing RV Parts supply shortage. This became a nightmare for people who wanted to fix their travel trailers after the warm weather returned. Of course, some folks gambled on their first trip, then regretted that decision when they found a major repair was needed after they hooked up at the campground.
None of this is fun, and all of it is avoidable. No matter where you live, once winter comes be prepared to winterize your travel trailer before you get a rude wake up call from mother nature.
Today, I am reading that at least in North Texas, it is hard to find RV antifreeze. Yet another reason to be on top of things. If you can’t find any, then do the next best thing and get your lines blown out as absolutely good as you can. Or better yet, take a road trip to Florida and escape the madness; wouldn’t that be great?
This mornings temperatures started at about 57 degrees and by 10:00 A.M. we were in the upper 30s and dropping. It is only going to get worse. We will be below freezing for over 36 hours, and our night time temperatures will be well below freezing for the next week.
My Travel Trailer is here on my property and winterized. In addition I have a back up plan for my house should the power go out (and I have a bad feeling about this storm). I am hoping that all of you, whether you are camping or in storage are prepared for the Winter Blast. We will get through this! Most importantly though, Please stay safe and warm wherever you are.
