The last three weeks has been a Texas winter like no other. We have lived in Texas since 2013 and I’ve never seen anything like this. We might as well be living in Wisconsin.

Many of my neighbors have frozen water lines and other issues. We have been very lucky, and I use that term loosely right now.

I actually took a pretty bad spill back on January 18th in the house. The guilty party was my rambunctious German shepherd puppy who, at the time, was almost a year old. I don’t even remember the fall, just the pain after I hit. So now I am going in for surgery tomorrow, fingers crossed that this can be repaired without having to do a more complicated surgery later.

The only reason I bring this up is so you can see that the Texas winter has now complicated things further. Knowing that the surgery was coming and I was already trying to keep the pool running with one good arm; I finally gave up and pulled the plugs on the pool equipment. You can only fight so long with one arm.

I know I can’t be out there afterwards trying to keep it running, and I certainly don’t want Tammy fighting it. So now we sit and hope that the pool can survive.

Fortunately I feel great despite the injury, and if you saw me outside you’d think nothing was wrong. As long as I don’t try to raise my arm above my chest level or reach out, I’m great. Tammy as well as my buddy Frank have both said I look like there is nothing wrong with me. So I feel blessed to be feeling really, pretty normal, and having the friends I have in the neighborhood like Al that have helped me out. Oh, and I DO still love my puppy!

In my Wisconsin Jacket!

Before the Texas Winter like no other hit, I was just worried about the travel trailer. I don’t even worry about the trailer now; I’ve got bigger fish to fry with the skating rink I used to call a pool and the associated equipment.

I am also worried that my overly curious and energetic puppy will somehow do something stupid and end up in the pool.

On the positive side (and there are many positives), I have some fantastic neighbors who will be more than happy to help as we work through this mess of a winter.

I had really hoped to be blogging about a trip we were planning to Utah in a few months. Obviously that’s not going to happen now. I’m itching to get out on the road but realize we are probably four months from that happening. In the meantime, don’t worry, I’ll find plenty to blog about.

in addition I just updated our book “A guide to enjoying your travel trailer”. I am making an attempt to update it once each year as things change in the RV industry, as well as the other books in the travel trailer trilogy! Stay safe!!!
