It’s day 4 of our Wisconsin Trip and we are leaving the Waterloo KOA for a 210 mile jog into Wisconsin. We will be staying at the Pilgrims Campground just outside of Fort Atkinson, Tammy’s home town.

I’ve been using the RV Life App on this trip because we are going a completely different route than normal. The RV Life App allows you to plan trips with “RV friendly directions”.

I have had quite a bit of experience with this app now and I can honestly say that the RV Friendly Directions are not always RV friendly. In fact they will take you off decent interstates and put you on some horrible back roads with no advantage to your trip at all. This app is also a real pain to learn because you need to create your trips on their website, then pull them into the app after you finish. So it’s not an integrated solution for travel. Also, there’s some other things that complicate using it but I’ll go into those in another blog.

Things were moving along well for us on the trip to Fort Atkinson until the RV Life navigation took us on probably 30 or so miles of horrible back roads. We were on highway 151, a major highway, that goes to Madison where we could easily have picked up Highway 12 to our destination. What followed after we left the road was 45 minutes of terrible roads and hairpin turns. In a nutshell it was not a pleasant driving experience. I’m going to have a chat with the RV Life folks to complain about this and see if there’s a way to make sure this never happens again. If this is what I can expect from RV Life App then I’ll just use Waze or Garmin. What’s the most frustrating is that I’m paying a yearly subscription for this type of nonsense. Rant Over….for now.

We arrived at Pilgrims campground about 2:30 PM and the campground was pretty full. This is a rather primitive campground. Your site will have water and electric but there are no pads for your rig; it’s basically a wooded field with hookups.

Our spot at Pilgrims #79

The ground is relatively level and it’s nice to have some grass for a change.

The temperatures in Wisconsin are in the low 80’s with low humidity right now; so it’s really nice camping weather.

I was able to put both awnings out because there is absolutely no wind at all. Unfortunately given the angle our trailer is in the awnings provided only minor shade.

After we were set up Tammy’s sister Cindy and her husband Dick came over and we had some beer while Eva chilled with us outside.

We will be here for the next three nights and then it’s on to Racine Wisconsin and Cliffside Park.
