Todays jaunt takes us 325 miles north to the Linn Creek KOA. The ride was uneventful and Eva slept most of the way in and off. She has become an awesome traveling puppy. Even when I buy gas and Tammy and I step out of the truck, she sits patiently and waits. This is much better than how she behaves at home if we both leave.
I want to preface my remarks by saying that there are really nice people working at this KOA. However, be aware, it is a fairly run down KOA. These are narrow and sometimes quite steep gravel roads leading to your site. So bad in fact that at one point I had to use my four-wheel drive.
The sites are gravel pads which are mostly unlevel when not maintained, which you would expect with gravel.

The dog park is pretty horrible as it is another unlevel and rocky washed-out area. It looks like it has received no attention in many years.
When we arrived, the KOA staff tried to direct us into a site we couldn’t possibly turn into, so I didn’t even attempt it. Trees at the intersections blocked a 30’+ trailer from turning around, making it impossible to try a different approach. So we requested a completely new site and they gave us an easier site to approach. Getting out of it was quite easy.
Coming back to request the new site required me to leave the KOA. I had to drive down the highway, turn around and return. All of this happens because the KOA roads are narrow and the turns are tight, lined with trees. This was not a fun way to stop for the night.
This is not a KOA that I would recommend unless you have a trailer that is under 30 feet. Even so I will not return to this KOA. That initial site was given to us with them knowing our trailer alone is 34 feet long. The hairpin turn that would be required to pull through would only work with maybe a 16’ trailer. When we asked for a new site the manager even said “I don’t like that site…we hardly ever use it”. I have nothing bad to say about the staff there, they quickly remedied the problem. It’s just something that shouldn’t have happened to begin with.
A pretty decent storm came through that night and dropped our temperature from 96 to 71 degrees. Oddly, it rose back to 76 around 2 a.m. before falling again. The really good news is that we are now out of the 95+ degree weather for the foreseeable future.
The next stop is Waterloo Iowa KOA. I am really hoping this is a better KOA.
