After 24 days, 4225 miles, and 11 states later, we are finally home again. It took two days to get her clean but she finally looks new again! First let me say none of this could have happened without Frank and Judy, and Al watching the house, the pool, the plants, and Mati (our Pionus Parrot) while we were gone. It’s great to have neighbors like these folks.
So what was the good the bad of the trip?
The Good:
- Jeff and Corrine’s wedding – most certainly the highlight of the trip.
- Spending time with the kids and Trent.
- Connecting with my Sister Mary and Brother Bill and their kids at the wedding was a blast.
- Seeing Brad and Tammy again – wish we lived closer…maybe in the future!
- Colorado’s Chatfield State Park – We didn’t want to leave.
- Mount Rushmore and the Badlands, not to mention the Badlands KOA.
- Breakfast at Mikes in Kenosha Wi & their Bloody Marys – outstanding!
- Getting everything fixed on the trailer at 1st Choice RV in Goshen Indiana.
- The Truck performed great – no problems at all.
- Decent Gas mileage – averaged about 9 over the course of the trip.
The Bad:
- Several KOA’s (See the previous trip blogs for details)
- The numerous Travel Trailer problems that seemed to happen each time we moved to a new campground (air conditioner, GFI outage, etc.)
- The Blackstone Grill not performing as it should (More in a future post about this)
- Finding a full water tank after towing through the mountains.
- Hannah had some serious health issues along the way – but we think she is on the mend now.
- Having to wash the trailer when we got home.
That was the big trip of this year and you have to take the good with the bad – that’s what traveling is all about.
We have some smaller trips planned this year along with a Grand Design Rally in October located in San Antonio. I still believe that traveling across the country with an RV is an economical way to travel. Compared to buying two airline tickets, a rental car, boarding the dogs, meals, and staying at a hotel it’s still inexpensive plus you are in your own space, not a hotel that a couple thousand people have stayed in. I think the days of finding a decent hotel room for under $150.00 per night is unrealistic, and if you find one it may not be the sort of place you want to stay.
In addition we got to travel through 11 states and see some amazing things, and we got to visit old friends – you can’t do that when you are flying point to point.
So, if you don’t have a travel trailer – get one. Then pack up your trailer and hit the road and make some memories!
